Honeycomb

Honeycomb is a race to fill a hexagon. Players take turns placing triangles, rhombi, trapezoids, and hexes, and the first to finish the honeycomb wins, against a friend or the bot.

Filling the board means seeing how smaller shapes combine into a hexagon, rotating pieces, and looking ahead so you do not leave an unfillable hole. That is spatial reasoning and geometry: composition, tessellation, and planning on a hexagonal grid.

PlayMath.org and the Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival have partnered to bring some of the real-world activities from the math festivals to life online. JRMF is a nonprofit that hosts non-competitive math festivals, where K–12 students explore hands-on puzzles together.
